A bright future for Engineering students
With a combination of highly experienced tutors, state of the art facilities and a mixture of qualifications which combine the traditional academic approach with a practical application, the engineering department in Cronton Sixth Form is offering students the opportunity to secure amazing university places and sort after degree apprenticeships all leading to highly successful engineering careers in the future.
After the opening of the IDEA Centre; a STEM centre with industry standard facilities in 2017 and the addition of new vocational courses including the Professional Engineering Programme the number of students choosing to study a vocational engineering course at Cronton has increased year on year. Over the past year, the keen engineering students have had the opportunity to experience many trips, workshops and masterclasses including an amazing trip to San Francisco, CERN in Geneva, the Annual Inspire Summit and educational trips to Jaguar Land Rover and a design and build workshop at Alton Towers with many more international trips planned for the coming year.
As well as fantastic trips to India and Berlin planned for the coming year, new students will benefit from taking part in the new ‘Higher Aspirations Programme’ at the College. Engineering students can support their university applications by taking part in the programme in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University. The programme allows students to take part in over ten trips to the university campus and complete part of their assignments on site. This will provide them with experience of university lectures, tours of the facilities and day to day university life all designed to inspire students to further their studies.
The class of 2019 received amazing results with students progressing onto engineering degrees and higher level apprenticeships including Loughborough University and Scottish Power. This has inspired current students as they begin to submit their UCAS application forms with students applying for some of the top universities in the country including the University of Oxford to study engineering courses.
Jo Hall, Head of Engineering at Cronton said, “The Engineering department at Cronton is going from strength to strength with new industry relevant qualifications, facilities and partnerships including new for 2020 a Level 3 Diploma in Digital Built Environment and the plan to add the HND in engineering qualification as the progression to the HNC we already offer.
“We are extremely proud of the students who gained amazing university places this year and wish them lots of luck for their degree courses.
“All of the staff and students are now looking ahead at the exciting partnerships, international trips, new qualifications and events including our planned celebrations for Engineers Week early next year and are hoping to continue offer students the best start to their future careers in engineering.”
