What is this course about?
Our full time Graphic Design course offers learners the opportunity to explore a broad range of graphic design practice and digital production techniques. You will study the principles of art and design, idea generation techniques, and work on range of creative projects that reflect industry, such as logo and branding design, editorial design, packaging design, illustration, photography, image manipulation, and animation. You will learn how to prepare artwork for both print and screen using Macs and Adobe applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. The course has an excellent record of direct progression into university and also offers practical advice for entry into a career within graphic design and related industries. Field trips, guest speakers and placements in industry all add vocational elements to this exciting course.

Entry requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 9 – 4 including a Grade 4 in English Language, a Grade 4 in Maths and a Grade 9 – 4 in an Art or Design related subject. You will be required to show a portfolio of work at a creative arts event, this will be arranged with you following your initial admissions interview.
What will this course lead on to?
Successful completion of the course can lead directly to a university degree in graphic design, or a related subject such as web design, games design, illustration or animation. While the majority of students choose to progress to university you will also prepare a portfolio of work and develop the skills required to seek employment within your chosen field of study.
What will I learn on this course?
The course gives you the opportunity to develop skills in graphic design practice – idea development, page layout, typography, and digital production methods. You will be able to apply these skills through a range of assignments that cover logo design/branding, editorial design, illustration, image manipulation, animation and print-making. In addition, you will gain an understanding of art and design history, and improve your visual recording skills.
Enrichment Opportunities
Students have the option to complete a national Arts Award. Learners are given the opportunity to get involved with other subjects to enrich the college experience. Sessions are typically offered in photography, dance, art, music, gym sessions, book clubs, film club, and a range of sports activities.
How will I be assessed?
The course is primarily assignment-based and you will follow individual briefs that will develop your technical and creative skills and help prepare you for university or industry. You will be marked on both practical and written project work which will provide the evidence on which your grades will be based.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will be given an equipment list that requires you to purchase a range of items that will be used throughout the duration of the course such as design consumables, a set of pencils, sketchbook and fine liners. Visits to Museums, Galleries Exhibitions etc. may include a small charge.
