Please note all of our A Level subjects must be studied as part of a full time A Level programme. You will choose 3 A level subjects to study over two years.
What is this course about?
You will study a combination of British and World History. The course has been designed to focus on events, periods and ideas, which have had a direct impact on the world in which we live today and to broaden your historical awareness and skills.
You will study the following units:
- Unit 1: Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-1945
- Unit 2: Tudor England, 1485-1603
- Unit 3: Independent Coursework: The Struggle for African American Civil Rights 1865-1970
Why choose this course?
History is a diverse, challenging and relevant subject, and remains a popular choice at A level. The History department has remodelled the course to reflect this.
You will have the chance to study topics that offer as broad an introduction to the discipline as is possible; including social, political, economic, cultural and diplomatic history. Teaching within the department has recently been graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and this is also reflected in the achievement of our students. Entry requirements:
A minimum of 3 x 5’s and 2 x 4’s at GCSE including a Grade 5 in English Language, a Grade 5 in Maths and a Grade 5 in History.
What will this course lead on to?
Many of our A Level History students’ progress to reading History at university and Historians are found in all walks of life. The subject provides valuable analytical skills and provides an ideal platform to pursue a wide range of careers, such as Law, the Civil Service, Social Work, Journalism, Teaching and Banking. You could progress to a BA Hons degree in History, Politics or Philosophy.
