Please note all of our A Level subjects must be studied as part of a full time A Level programme. You will choose 3 A level subjects to study over two years.
What is this course about?
A level Dance encourages creativity, imagination and the analysis of your own work and the work of professional dancers and choreographers. You will study performance skills, choreography, contemporary dance technique and performance analysis. You will participate in practical sessions aimed at developing your own ability as a dancer in preparation for performance, regular choreographic workshops and theory-based lessons to develop your understanding of dance and appreciate the integration of theory and practice.

Entry requirements:
A minimum of 3 x Grade 5’s and 2 x Grade 4’s at GCSE including a Grade 5 in English Language, a Grade 5 in Maths and a Grade 5 in another written subject. You must also successfully pass an audition. This will be arranged after your admissions interview.
What will this course lead on to?
Some A Level dance students progress on to performance-related degrees or other degrees at university.
What will I learn on this course?
You will learn the skills required to choreograph solo and group dances based on a variety of subject matter. You will also develop performance skills enabling you to perform effectively as a soloist and when dancing with others. You will develop a broad understanding of dance through the study of a number of professional dance performances allowing you to appreciate the social and cultural significance of dance and performance. You will also study anatomy and health and fitness in relation to the dancer in action.
Enrichment Opportunities
Creative workshops with professional dance artists and a variety of theatre trips and visits aimed at developing your awareness of a variety of dance forms (recent rips have included New York, Amsterdam and Paris)

- Component 1: Performance & Choreography (Practical Exam 50%)
- Component 2: Critical Engagement (Written Exam 50%)
