What is this course about?
The Pearson Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport offers an exciting pathway into the dynamic and diverse field of sports. Whether you aspire to be a coach, fitness instructor, or pursue progression to the L3 Pearson Extended Diploma in sport or attain an entry level position within the sports sector. This course provides you with the foundational knowledge and practical skill sets to excel, the course teaches the principles and practices within the Sport, Health, Fitness, and Coaching industries and is delivered through a variety of methods, within the classroom, the sports hall, and our NEW Gym and outdoor fitness suites.
What will I learn on this course?
Throughout this program, students will engage with a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge for success in the sports industry. The course covers three mandatory units in Fitness for Sport & Exercise (Exam), Practical Sports Performance and Anatomy and Physiology (Exam). You will then study a range of optional specialisms covering units such as Leading Sports Activities, Designing Exercise Programmes, The Sport and Active Leisure Industry, Running a Sports Event, Training for Personal Fitness, Profiling Sports Performance and The Sports Performer in Action. Students will experience a wide variety of volunteering opportunities and benefit from our invaluable links with the Sport, Health, Fitness and Coaching sectors. Visits from guest speakers will enhance their learning and future career opportunities.
Entry requirements:
A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grades 9-3 including a Grade 3 in English Language and a Grade 2 in Maths.
Can I study this course if I have not taken it at GCSE?
Yes (However, it is preferable to have studied GCSE or BTEC sport at school).
How will I be assessed?
The course involves two exams, written assignments, case studies, practical observations, Leading Activities, Vivas, and group and individual presentations.
What will this course lead on to?
On successful completion of the Pearson L2 Extended Certificate in Sport course learners will have the opportunity to progress to the Pearson L3 Extended Diploma or attain an apprenticeship or entry level position within the Sport, Health, Fitness and Coaching sectors. Additionally, opportunities abound in fields such as the armed forces, blue light services and voluntary sector can be pursued.
Enrichment Opportunities
At Cronton, students studying Sports are offered exciting opportunities such as skiing in France and undertaking work experience in schools in Barcelona. These experiences not only allow students to travel but also provide valuable work experience and exposure to diverse cultures.
Additionally, during your time at Cronton, you may have the chance to join one of our college sports teams, which include Football, Rugby, Netball, and Basketball, enriching your overall experience.
You can also take part in other clubs and activities including the Centre of Excellence in Performing Arts Productions.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Students will be expected to purchase the course kit package that is approximately between £50-70 and make a contribution to trips and visits that are organised to support curriculum delivery.

Our state-of-the-art facilities cater to diverse athletic needs. Featuring a high-tech Gym and outdoor training zone for weight and cardiovascular training, a versatile Sports Hall, and a dedicated Sports Science Laboratory, we offer comprehensive resources for athletes.
With access to a rugby pitch, two football pitches, and regular use of the 4G Pitch at DCLB stadium through our partnership with Widnes Vikings, athletes can train effectively and excel in their respective sports.
