Former Students Honoured at Awards Evening
Former A Level students from Cronton Sixth Form, returned on the 17th of December to receive awards honouring their fantastic achievements during their time at the College.
College Principal, Mary Murphy, welcomed attending guests who included friends and family of the students, the Mayor of Halton, Councillor Shaun Osborne and Rachel Williams, Professor of Bio-Engineering at Liverpool University.
Professor Williams greeted the winners and presented over thirty special awards to those students who had gone above and beyond achieving great things during their time at College.
Remi Smith, from Widnes, received two awards on the night; an award for ‘Student of the Year in Geography’ plus the ‘Overall Achievement’ award for her outstanding work and results. Remi has progressed to the University of Manchester where she is studying Law.
Jack Austin, from Widnes, also received two awards; the Further Maths award and the ‘Student of the Year’ award for consistently demonstrating an excellent work ethic throughout his studies and making a major contribution to the college community during his 2 years at Cronton. Jack has progressed to Manchester University to study a Mathematics Degree. Jack then spoke fondly about his time at Cronton and what it had meant to him.
Once the awards had been handed out, Professor Williams delivered a talk to the audience, providing inspirational career advice for the students; with many now at universities across the country.
Philip Taylor, Head of Cronton Sixth Form said, “It was fantastic to welcome back so many of our talented former students, who have now gone on to study at universities across the country. The class of 2014 produced a cohort of students eager to perform their best in the exams during the summer. The results of a 99.2% pass rate at A level and 80% high grades were outstanding. I would like to wish all of the students the best of luck in the future”
