Successful Industry Professionals help creative students prepare for employment

Graphic Design and Photography students from Cronton School of Art have been focusing on maximising their employment opportunities in film and television by attending a workshop delivered in partnership with Puma Events and Training and Creative England.

The event, which was funded by the College and Halton Borough Council, involved industry key speakers providing the students with vital information about their future career prospects and guidance on updating their portfolios and CV’s to industry standards.
The students had the opportunity to listen to inspirational talks by Producer, Christopher Wood; Freelance Photographer, James Stack; Graphic Designer and Screen Branding Specialist, Roger Osborne and Illustrator and In Set Designer, Sara Cullen who discussed their vast experience working within the TV and film industry which has included working at Lime Media, famous for Hollyoaks and The Only Way is Essex.

Aaron Tennett, who is currently studying on the Level 3 Photography course at the college, took part in the event and has since managed to secure a place at Middlesex University London to study a photography degree, the university has an excellent reputation as one of the top photography courses in the country. He said, “I am over the moon that I have gained a place at Middlesex university studying Photography. But I wouldn’t have been able to produce the standard of work that they require without the help of the tutors and staff from Cronton Sixth Form College”.
Maxine Mealey, Head of School said “This was an exceptional employability event for the students which enabled them to work alongside professionals and current employers. It helped to encourage our Level 3 students to look at different options for their future careers. It was a new concept for many of the students but they all responded extremely well and understood the importance of stretching their horizons by gaining work experience in a variety of settings.
“The skills, qualifications and high grades the students are currently gaining at Cronton Sixth Form through ‘Cronton School of Art’ are highly desirable within many creative industries. We strive to provide our students with the skills needed to achieve their full potential and the best jobs in their chosen careers, and our outstanding university and employment progression rates are testament to this.”
