Money Raising Events for Wig Wednesday
On Wednesday 20th May 2015, staff and students at Cronton Sixth Form College donned brilliant wigs and held money raising activities, all in support of ‘Wig Wednesday’.
The annual event encourages people to wear wigs and collect donations, all to help raise awareness of the impact of childhood cancer.
Wig Wednesday was first held in 2011 by CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support to help cope with cancer and get the most out of life.
Along with staff and students wearing wigs throughout the day, events going on at the College included a competition to guess the number of wigs displayed in a picture, a competition to name a teddy bear, with the name ‘fizz’ chosen by Public services student Christopher Reynolds, and a celebrity quiz. A fantastic total of £160.81 was raised on the day.
Event organiser, Natalie Patten, said “I would like to say, on behalf of CLIC Sargent and myself, a HUGE thank you to everybody who got involved and contributed to the Wig Wednesday event, especially to all who wore a wig! Students and staff gave very generously and every penny of this will help support young people and their families.”
