Professor John Freeman visits the performance students at Cronton Sixth Form College.

Students studying at the Centre of Excellence in Performing Arts at Cronton Sixth Form have been treated to a visit from Professor John Freeman who visited the college as part of his four week tour that saw him lecturing in New York, Memphis, Athens and London.
Professor Freeman, who currently lectures at Curtin University, Perth, Australia was over in the UK to discuss the possibility of becoming partners with the Performing Arts department and explore ideas that would result in performance sharing both here and in Australia. Amongst his many publications and achievements, his new book, Greatest Shows on Earth has become a textbook best seller and is now on Performing Arts booklists throughout the world.
A level and BTEC Performing Arts students at Cronton took time away from rehearsing their next Centre of Excellence performance of Sweeney Todd to take part in workshops with the professor and were then able to ask him questions about his work.
Professor Freeman said, “I’ve been lecturing in the university sector since 1985 and have found almost exclusively that tutors who seem to have most impact are those from Sixth Forms.  The students’ enthusiasm and curiosity for their subject is a real credit to the quality of the teaching and support at Cronton Sixth Form College.  Our cultural future is in their hands and when I make my intermittent visits to Cronton, I’m reminded of how safe that future is.”
