Cronton Sports student swims to finals
On Monday 28th January, five students from Cronton Sixth Form represented the College at the annual British Colleges Sport (BCS) North West Regional Swimming Gala at Broughton Pool in Salford.
Over 100 students from Colleges around the region took part in numerous events over the course of the afternoon and Cronton was represented in the female competition by 5 Centre of Sporting Excellence students – Charlie Pavitt, Amy Wright, Hollie Bousfield, Alex Hill, and Lucy Hale. All the girls are currently studying on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, Development and Fitness.
Each student put on an excellent performance, for some this being their first experience of a swimming competition. Lucy Hale, previously from Wade Deacon High School competed in the 200m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke and managed to qualify for the national finals. Lucy, who swims for Liverpool City Swimming Club won her 200m Freestyle race and will now represent the North West in the British Colleges Sport National Championships to be held in Bath on the 22nd – 24th March.
Lucy said, “I am really proud to be representing North West Colleges at the BCS National Championships in Bath. The qualifying was tough and I know the competition will be tougher at the finals but it is a challenge that I’m really looking forward to.
“I’ll certainly be putting in some extra sessions at the pool in readiness. Competing at a national level will certainly be an experience that I will remember.”
Keith Barker, Sports Tutor at Cronton Sixth Form said, “We are absolutely delighted that Lucy has qualified for the National finals and we wish her the best of luck in Bath.
“At the Centre of Excellence in Sport we continue with our commitment to support and train our students across a vast range of individual and team sports. This is the first time one of our students has qualified for the swimming finals, however many of our students are currently completing at a national level in many different sports and the Centre of Excellence in Sport was announced as the top in the country for sports performance and excellence so this is an exciting time for us”.
