World Champion title for talented Cronton sports scholar
Sporting scholar Daniel Wigelsworth from Cronton Sixth Form has fought his way to the top at the World Kickboxing Championships in Orlando, Florida.
Daniel recently travelled to Florida to compete in the top international completion with five other members of his kickboxing club, ‘Hurricane Combat and Fitness’, and returned home as the world champion.
Daniel is in his first year at Cronton Sixth Form and as well as studying four A levels he managed to increase his training prior to the event in the hope that he would win the title after winning the 14/15 age category in Ireland last year. The talented student has also managed to secure the British kickboxing title a total of seven times since starting kickboxing at seven years old.
Daniel, previously from Ormiston Chadwick Academy said, “I was extremely pleased to have secured the world title for the second year on the run. The competition was really tough but I went to Florida believing I could win and I was able to stay focused during the whole competition. I am now training for other top international competitions this year, as well as coaching and concentrating on my education. I was pleased to start at Cronton Sixth form after I was selected as a sports scholar, which means that I can complete my A Levels and also attend Centre for Sporting Excellence sessions at College which all helps towards my fitness especially on the lead up to the major competitions.”
