Fundraising was the icing on the cake for Medical Society Students

Students and staff at Cronton Sixth Form have organised a creative fundraiser to raise money Macmillan Cancer Support involving 250 students and 14 members of staff. The students who organised the event are part of the Medical Society at College and regularly organise fundraising events as part of the extra curriculum programme which helps to prepare students for entry into a career in the medical profession.
Students, led by Danielle Ellis and Daniel Swift organised a Macmillan Biscuit Icing competition with tutor groups going head to head to ice as many biscuits as possible in fifteen minutes. The winning group won the competition after icing an amazing 317 biscuits, which works out as 21 biscuits per minute. The tutor group won a box of Easter eggs and the students are hoping the event will raise a total of over £2000 for the worthwhile charity.
Lisa Wild, who helped the students during the event said, “It was lovely to meet the staff and students at Cronton Sixth Form College and see such enthusiasm, not only the challenge but also to support Macmillan. Without events like this we couldn’t continue with the vital work and support services we provide in the community for people and their families affected by cancer.
“Each week 17 people in the Local Authority will hear the devastating news that they have cancer, for most it will be the toughest challenge they will ever face. There are currently 4900 in the area living with or beyond the illness. Macmillan provide medical, practical, emotional and financial support, we are a force for change and consistently campaign to improve cancer care.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part, supported and sponsored this event, the money raised will help us support more local people affected by cancer.”
