Super Rugby Workshop for Super League Coaches
This week the Centre of Sporting Excellence at Cronton Sixth Form was host to a Primary Rugby League Workshop for all Super League clubs.
The event, ran by Craig Richards, the Coaching and Education Manager at the Saints (St Helens RFC) was organised to provide an update of how the schools rugby league programme will run. Local clubs including the Widnes Vikings and Warrington Wolves were joined by teams from as far as Cumbria and Coventry for the event.
During the busy day the club coaches and students had the opportunity to update their coaching expertise for primary school age children and gain new skills to inspire and get more of this age group interested in rugby.
This will particularly help the higher education students as they prepare to organise a primary school rugby league festival in the summer at the college.
Tracy Power, Sky Try Manager from the Rugby Football League said, “I’d like to thank Cronton College for hosting the event and for their superb hospitality on the day. The sports staff were extremely helpful and accommodating which made the organisation and delivery of the event that much easier.
“Providing a positive, fun, Rugby League experience for primary school aged children is an integral part of our work to grow and develop the game, and events like this enable us to support foundations with this work. I’d like to thank Cronton College and all the staff and students involved for supporting the event.”
Event organiser Craig Richard said, “This was a great event, with a large numbers of Super League and Championship clubs in attendance. The Primary Rugby League Programme is an essential piece of work that’s integral to drive and underpin the Rugby League player pathway, I would like to thank all at Cronton College for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities and for the great hospitality on the day.”
