Please note all of our A Level subjects must be studied as part of a full time A Level programme. You will choose 3 A level subjects to study over two years.
Why study this course at Cronton Sixth Form?
The department is committed to inspiring and motivating learners through high quality teaching and learning and progression guidance. We have new health and care facilities for 2023 including a Simulated Nursing and Care Training Room and Practice Hospital Ward, a Science and Health Laboratory and 360 Immersive Room.
What will I study?
This course is designed for students who wish to focus on health and care but also wish to study two further A Level subjects. Students will have access to the new industry standard health facilities including our simulated hospital ward and specialist laboratory. On this course you will study a variety of health and social care related subjects such as human lifespan, legislation, communication and mental health.
How will I be assessed?
The course involves exams assignments over the two years. This course is equivalent to 1 x A Level.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 3 x 5’s and 2 x 4’s at GCSE including a Grade 5 in English Language and Grade 5 in Maths. Students must also have a clear DBS (please enquire at your interview).
Can I study this course if I have not taken it at GCSE?
You do not need to have previously studied this subject at GCSE.
What will this course lead on to?
You could progress to a BA (Hons) degree in Adult & Children’s Nursing, Mental Health roles & Learning Disability Nursing, Social Work and Youth Work, Public Health, Social Care, Community Work and SEN. You could enter employment as a senior care worker in a range of settings including residential and nursing homes. Some other pathways are:

• Criminology, Sociology and Psychology
Industry placements
Industry placement and experience is a vital part of all of the Health and Social Care and Health Studies qualifications. During the course, students will experience work experience placements including hospitals and social care settings. Our innovative partnerships in the Health Sector allow us to access prestigious work placements within Warrington Hospital, the NHS, Halton Borough Council and Community Integrated Care (CIC).
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will need to purchase a polo shirt (£7) and hoodie (£11) please note that costs are subject to change and they are to be worn in college and on your placements.
Facilities
Our fantastic simulated ward with manikin patients and an accessible care suite helps students to experience a real work environment. You will be able to carry out many practical elements of the course such as taking blood pressure, checking heart rates and pulse, and practice moving and handling.
Enrichment Opportunities
You will have the opportunity to visit universities to experience student life in taster days/week. Additionally, you will be able to build up a portfolio of short courses in first aid, Dementia awareness, manual handling, autism and counselling. Visit other industry care environments outside your placement requirements. Raise money for charity, Guest Speakers and the opportunity to enter UK skills competitions.
Be inspired
Students studying Health and Social Care will gain both theoretical knowledge and invaluable practical experience to enable them to progress to employment or further education in their chosen sector. Health and Social Care students will benefit from our new clinical practice ward with the latest equipment. All students must complete a DBS before carrying out placement. This will be completed within the college.
