Cronton Sixth Form Celebrates European Day of Languages
Students at Cronton Sixth Form had the unusual experience of entering college to offers of free international food tasters, such as croissants and pain au chocolat, and being greeted in various languages instead of the usual ‘Good Morning’.
All of this was in celebration of the annual European Day of Languages. Various members of staff and student volunteers from the Languages department took part in the event which was organised by Sylvie Laloyer, Subject Head for Modern Foreign Languages at the College.
The event, held every year at the College, helps to raise awareness of other European languages. Posters of famous celebrities fluent in European languages, such as Bradley Cooper and Gwyneth Paltrow, were placed around the college to display how and why they choose to speak other languages. Students also had the opportunity to take part in a quiz competition with the chance to win a cash prize.
Helen Chappell, head of English and Modern Foreign Languages at the College, said, “This was an opportunity to celebrate diversity and get involved in European Day of Languages, as well as tasting some delicious foods! Thank you to everyone who helped out, including our brilliant French and Spanish students from the Cronton Sixth Form campus.”
