Centre of Excellence Captivates Audience with Les Misérables in Concert
Students at Cronton Sixth Form College thrilled a packed audience at St Luke’s Church in Farnworth with a spectacular musical performance of ‘Les Misérables’.
Based on the novel by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo, Les Misérables is the longest-running musical in the West End. Set in early 19th-century France, the production tells of prisoner Jean Valjean who breaks parole following 19 years in prison and police inspector Javert who tries to hunt him down.
The talented performing arts students stepped into the iconic roles for the production at St Luke’s Church, which was extended to a two night run after a high demand for tickets. In the lead roles were Ritchie Redmond as Jean Valjean, Joseph Anderson as Javert, Elsie Gaia as Fantine, and Jiordan Haddley as Cosette.
The 13th Century church was the ideal venue for the performance and hosted a sold out audience which included student families and friends, and special guest The Worshipful the Mayor of Halton Councillor Ged Philbin.
Matt Plant, Head of the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts, said “The performance of Les Misérables was outstanding; we have had lots of wonderful feedback from audience members who were extremely impressed by our students. I would like to say a huge thank you to Sue Smither and the congregation of St Luke’s Church for their invaluable support as always.”
Commenting on social media, audience member Graham from Prescot commented “This wasn’t just amazing, it was phenomenal. I hoped it would be good but I never expected anything as incredibly polished as this. I’d go and watch it all again tomorrow if could!”
The Centre of Excellence will be opening their final show of the year, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ on Thursday 6th July with a second and final performance on Friday 7th July. Please call the Box Office on 0151 257 2032 for ticket information.
