Outstanding College Efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support
Riverside College and Cronton Sixth Form College came together to raise an incredible £3,907 for Macmillan Cancer Support with a series of exciting events at both campuses.
Jeannette Brady from the college Finance Team took the inspirational step of ‘Braving the Shave’ which raised an amazing £3,224.50. Colleagues, friends, family, students and a special guest; Widnes Vikings Rugby League Club player Gil Dudson were at Riverside to support Jeannette as she had her head shaved for the wonderful cause.
Jeannette commented, “I would like to give a special thank you to all my friends and colleagues for supporting me so generously in my ‘Brave the Shave’ fundraiser. It was overwhelming to see so many people turn out for the event and it made it a truly memorable day. Macmillan holds a very special place in my heart and I am delighted, with everyone’s help, to have raised nearly £4,000 for such a worthy cause.”
The annual ‘Great College Bake Off’ also took place; Riverside College’s version of the popular Channel 4 baking show with students and staff competing for the title of best baker. Competition Judges Stephen Parkinson, Programme Area Leader for Catering and Hospitality, and Maureen Nicholls, Catering Tutor, were so impressed with the entries they could not decide an outright winner. First place went to both Carol Walker, Placement Co-ordinator for Early Years and Health & Social Care, and catering student Shania Machell, from Runcorn, for their equally outstanding bakes.
Both colleges also hosted a successful Coffee Morning to raise money, with delicious bakes made by staff and students going on sale. A fantastic £682.50 was raised on the morning, bringing the total raised to an incredible £3,907.
