National Rugby League Champions
Female rugby stars from Cronton Sixth Form have topped off a fantastic run of success, by winning the Student Rugby League Women’s Championships 2014.
The Cronton team travelled to Leeds Metropolitan University on Wednesday 23rd April to take part in the final 9-a-side festival and returned home national champions after an unbeaten run.

Mark Brennan Head of Female Rugby Centre of Sporting Excellence said, “I am proud of the effort and attitude of the whole team. The girls have played brilliantly at both rugby league and rugby union over the past year and deserve to be crowned ‘National Rugby League champions 2014’. We have now been three years unbeaten as a team and have gone from strength to strength over the last twelve months. We are looking forward to progressing further with the team again next year.”
Safina Clay, Tara Jones, Hannah Curran, Sammie Simpson, Katie Woodcock, Ellie Goulding, Zoe Ormsby and Emma McCartney from the Cronton team have only just returned to College after being selected to represent the North West region at the British College Sport rugby union finals at Bath University where the North West team came fourth, in what was a tough two day competition. Four members of the team, Ellie, Emma, Samantha and Tara are also celebrating after their recent achievements and two competitive trails; they have been selected to represent the England Student Woman’s Rugby League team for 2014.
